This tool is shaped like a long tube that is dropped several meters above the seabed so that it penetrates the sediment and takes a sample in the form of a sediment core.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"883\" height=\"954\" src=\"https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2685\" style=\"width:491px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1.jpg 883w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-278x300.jpg 278w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-768x830.jpg 768w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-11x12.jpg 11w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-574x620.jpg 574w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-600x648.jpg 600w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_1-400x432.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 883px) 100vw, 883px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The need to collect undisturbed sediment cores in various fields such as geological and environmental research, submarine cable and pipeline planning, offshore construction site investigations, and resource exploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This method is often chosen because it has the advantage of providing vertically undisturbed sediment samples, allowing for the examination of sediment layers, compared to grab samples, which only obtain sediment samples from the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of cost, the gravity core method is cheaper than vibrocore\/drilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are limitations to the process of collecting sediment cores using this method if the work site has a very hard seabed, preventing the tool from penetrating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Where can the gravity core be applied? In principle, it can be used in almost all aquatic environments with sufficient depth and not covered by hard layers\/rocks\/reefs. The optimal time for sediment core sampling using the gravity core is when there are no extreme waves or strong currents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Parts of the Gravity Core<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, the gravity core consists of the following parts:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"397\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_2.png 397w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_2-300x236.png 300w, https:\/\/qyudos.co.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Gravity_Corer_2-15x12.png 15w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drive Motor\/Winch \u2013 Used to pull the sampling tool. This is a drive motor that uses diesel power or another type of pulling motor. The winch is used to lower and pull the Gravity Core connected to a sling cable or steel wire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Head Weight \u2013 A weight attached to the top of the tool. Adding weight (mass) to the gravity corer increases the total weight of the tool. This increase in weight provides greater thrust, allowing the corer to penetrate deeper into the sediment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Core Barrel \u2013 A steel tube in which the liner is placed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PVC Liner \u2013 A PVC tube placed inside the barrel, where samples are stored.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nose Core \u2013 The tip of the sediment cutting core that allows it to penetrate the sediment.
